Financial and Monetary Economics

Module Content:
This module provides an understanding of the overall workings of the economy and government policies toward employment, output, inflation and the balance of payments, focusing in particular on the monetary and financial aspects and the determination of interest rates and exchange rates.

Module Aims:
1.To provide an understanding of the overall workings of the economy and of the impact on it of government macroeconomic and financial policies.

2.To provide a broad understanding of the role and functions of the financial system in the economy.

3.To focus on the monetary, financial and fiscal aspects of government policy, paying particular attention to the determination of interest rates, inflation rates and exchange rates.

4.To provide a brief introduction to contemporary macroeconomic and financial controversies.

Module Assessment:
2 Hour Examination (70%); Coursework (2500 words) (30%)
