First tri-campus 'Financial Innovation, Stability and Sustainable Growth' conference hailed a huge success

The first ever University of Nottingham tri-campus conference on “Financial Innovation, Stability and Sustainable Growth” held recently in China has been hailed a huge success.

Tri-campus Financial Innovation, Stability and Sustainable Growth conferenceThe conference - which was hosted by the University of Nottingham Ningbo China under the auspices of the International Finance and Banking Society (IFABS) - attracted around 200 international delegates from academia, central banks, and international organisations. In addition a further 200 local delegates from the Ningbo government and various financial institutions also participated in the three day event.

Among a distinguished cast of speakers from academia, policy organisations and industry, were Professor Robert Engle (Noble Laureate); Mr Guan Jianzhong (Chairman of Dagong Global Credit Rating Group and Universal Credit Rating Group); Dr Alfred Schipke (IMF Senior Resident Representative for China) and Mr Jesper Berg (Director General of Danish Financial Supervisory Authority). Colleagues from all three University of Nottingham campuses (UK, China and Malaysia) also gave presentations.

Topics covered at the conference included the volatility of multinational finance markets; repositioning credit rating in the international financial system; and the economic development and reform status of China. A special panel discussion on Brexit and the world economy gave delegates an opportunity to explore ideas on the impact of Brexit on Europe and China.

The conference provided an outstanding platform to share common research interests and collaboration opportunities. Proceedings from the event will feature in a special issue of the Journal of Banking and Finance on ‘Financial Innovation, Stability and Sustainable Growth’.

Professor Meryem Duygun, Aviva Chair in Risk and Insurance of NUBS UK and President of IFABS said: “I am so proud and delighted that the first ever tri-campus event proved to be a great success. I hope that such initiative born at the NUBS, will continue for many years to go and inspire many other departments at our campuses to launch similar meetings.

“The benefits are countless and rewards are priceless to our School, University and the staff. Networking, research collaboration, enriching research environment, impact cases development, and raising the profile of the University are among the many benefits events like this can foster.

“I am indebted to IFABS for their world class organisation in supporting and sponsoring the event.”
