Research Topic:
The Impact of Risk Management Standards on Claims Across NHS Acute Hospital Trusts

Research Details:
NHS Trusts are required to undergo risk management assessments on a bi-annual basis -these are coordinated by the NHS Litigation Authority and trusts can achieve level one, two or three in such assessments. Discounts of between 10% and 30% are offered on a trust's annual contribution for claims to incentivise trusts to achieve higher level of risk management compliance. While the objective in awarding such discounts are likely to include reduced future claims due to improved risk management processes, there is a lack of empirical evidence that has proven or disproven such a view. This PhD employs some initial exploratory interviews followed by an extensive panel data analysis of claim variables, risk levels and other casemix variables to test the linkage between risk levels and claims. I am in year four of my part-time PhD and have recently progressed through the annual review stage two process.

CurrentTeaching: I teach full-time in Ireland in Waterford Institute of Technology and am a part-time student at the Univerity of Nottingham.
