Skills workshops

Students working in a group

Skills workshops give employers the opportunity to be actively engaged with student learning and development. From providing students with an insight into recruitment processes to delivering competency based skills training, there are a range of topics to choose from.

You may wish to offer sessions on:

  • online applications
  • competency based interviews
  • e-tray exercises
  • assessment centres

You could also deliver longer sessions based on the broader skills that graduates will need to demonstrate, such as:

  • commercial awareness
  • team management
  • project management
  • presentation skills

Alternatively, you may have your own ‘off the shelf’ training that would like to provide.

If you would like to get involved, please contact us to discuss it further.

Who are these Skills Workshops for?
  • These skills workshops are open to all undergraduates and postgraduates at The University of Nottingham
  • They will be useful to both those who already have a clear career focus, and those who are still undecided
  • They are relevant to all sectors of employment, as the programme is focused on skills that are most widely recognised as key for success in future careers
  • You should expect an attendance of up to 40 - 50 students
  • Skills workshops are taken either as stand alone or as part of a skill development programme linked to our Nottingham Advantage Award

When and where do they take place?
  • The skills workshops take place at the University Park campus
  • Long sessions (normally 1 hour 50 minutes) are held on Wednesday afternoons
  • Short sessions (50 minutes) are held on Mondays

What should you consider when a Skills Workshop?
  • These sessions should be impartial and skills-based and not used as a recruitment session or an opportunity to promote your company
  • Sessions should be interactive, informative and include group work where appropriate
  • You can expect an attendance of up to 40 - 50 students of a variety of degree disciplines, year of study and degree level

How do I book a Skills Workshop?

The workshops are organised by the Nottingham Advantage Award team. To book a skills workshop or discuss your options, please email the Nottingham Advantage Award team.
