Working with your alumni

Adviser and student discussing a document

University of Nottingham alumni are able to use our services for as long as they wish and in the same way as they did as a student. They can:

  • book appointments with a careers adviser
  • use the website
  • use the vacancy service
  • attend careers events

For those who have remained in Nottingham we offer evening appointments on a Tuesday. For those who have moved away from Nottingham, we can arrange to give our advice and guidance by email, by telephone or by Skype.

We are happy to talk to those contemplating a career change and offer what support we can.

Your alumni should use the alumni pages of our website.

New initiatives

We currently run an extensive events programme offering students the chance to build on their career skills and meet with speakers ─ often University of Nottingham alumni ─ to hear about careers in industry, education etc. However, the Centre is keen to build on this success with the introduction of new initiatives that seek to bring together current students and alumni within a mutually-beneficial relationship.

We recognise that University of Nottingham alumni have a wealth of experience that can enhance the career development needs of current students and more recent graduates and there are a number of way alumni can get involved:

Career profiles

Alumni can register on our online careers service system and complete a brief description of their career history. The 'Employment information' section can then be viewed by students as an information resource. Career profiles remain anonymous, and personal data is not available. More details on career profiles are available on our alumni pages.

E-mentoring

This is a new initiative which will give alumni who have a registered a career profile the opportunity to extend their volunteering activities and mentor a current student. It is envisaged that all e-mentoring will be based on a short-term relationship with mentees matched and monitored by our staff. Alumni involvement with e-mentoring can be measured and controlled independently within the guidelines of our scheme. More details for alumni on e-mentoring are available on the alumni pages.
