We offer a variety of services to support our students through their transition into the world of work or further study. We offer everything from recruitment fairs to employer marketing activities such as hot air balloons. We levy small charges for some activities which is then reinvested into services to students ─ upon which some aspects of our service depend.
We have an extensive vacancy service accessible to University students and graduates only. Organisations advertise vacancies for free after setting up an organisation profile. Vacancies are reviewed by our team. Students and alumni are able to search the database and set up automatic searches that email them when a job they might be interested in goes live.
We organise events with organisations on campus ranging from presentations about specific schemes through to skills presentations, for example:
Students sign up for the events and we are able to pass to the employers the details of those who attend ─ if they agree ─ so they may continue any discussions around opportunities. We offer around 150 events per year.
We have organised hundreds of internships in the profit and not-for-profit sectors and are able to advise employers and colleagues across the University on different opportunities as well as give examples of best practice. We have also developed an online learning course to assist students in further developing their employability, adding value to their internship.
We organise a number of large fairs each year in locations around the campus, as well as support some smaller dedicated fairs within different faculties. Our large summer fair, business and management and law fairs bring together students, employers and job opportunities. These events usually last one day.
We try, wherever possible, to bring the employers and interested colleagues in academic Schools together to explore what opportunities might exist to work together. A number of Schools already have dedicated extra-curricular activity and we can help develop that as well as advise on employers who may want to work with you on modules related to employability. We recently won a national employability award sponsored by npower for our ‘Inside Employment’ module, supported by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and delivered as part of the Nottingham Advantage Award.
We support organisations in raising their profile on campus and co-operate with the Students' Union. We record all events so we can provide a clear picture to an organisation of their activity in the past ─ this is especially important with the larger, global organisations. We also refer to other areas of the University where they might be able to benefit ─ recent examples would include our work with Experian that has led to new opportunities for widening participation.
We offer bespoke advice to organisations around recruiting our graduates and can arrange focus groups, surveys and other forms of student discussion to help inform their recruitment strategies.
