Careers eMentoring

The careers focused eMentoring scheme aims to help you to enhance your employability by providing direct access to alumni with experience in the profession or industry that you wish to work in.

Our mentors cover a range of industries including accountancy, journalism, law and retail services. Our aim is to match you with a suitable mentor based on your study interests or career aspirations.

Not only will your mentor be able to provide invaluable advice, but through participation in the scheme you will be demonstrating to prospective employers that you have gone above and beyond the curriculum to learn more about the profession you want to enter into. This is a point of discussion at interviews and can significantly improve your confidence going into the professional arena.

We currently have a pool of over 150 active mentors and are expanding thanks to the support of our alumni.

Applications for the 2012/13 scheme are now closed. The next scheme will open applications in September 2013. However, you can register your interest for the next scheme.

What have previous mentees said about the scheme?

The eMentoring scheme has informed me how to network and make contacts with people who are relevant. It has also given me a different perspective of how an industry works, as my mentor has had extensive experience within it. With this, I have developed my ability to fill in application forms and create a CV that truly reflects my personal goals and positive attributes such that when applying for positions I am a little more confident. I am also waiting to hear replies about first steps after graduation and what kind of realistic goals I should be making at this point in time.

Patricia , Management Studies

I got to know major requirements and needs for the specific job role I am interested in.

Najabat, Computer Science and Entrepreneurship MSc

My mentor has been incredibly helpful as someone who I can bounce ideas off and take careers advice from-I'll continue to speak to him about this in future.

Zahid, Economics

My mentor has been extremely open about their career to date and has been answering my questions and queries in depth.

Sarah, History

A mentor's perspective

Any kind of career preparation for students is something I really support - I had some really great career assistance and advice at Nottingham which prepared me for my eventual career and want to help carry this on for future graduates.
