Statistical career opportunities are available across a wide range of areas, such as statistics in:

Careers in statistics

  • Royal Statistical Society - information about a wide range of statistical careers. The society’s DVD about careers in statistics - Statisticians Count is available on the student computers in our resource area 
  • Office for National Statistics (ONS) - information about career opportunities with the department and current vacancies 
  • Prospects – for a professional insight into the careers in this industry
 

Careers in economics

  • Bank of England - information on recruitment and job vacancies
  • Economist.com - analysis and commentary on world business and the global political economy. It has all of the articles from The Economist weekly newspaper and job adverts
  • Econ-jobs.com - lists jobs for economics graduates in the UK and around the world
  • Financial Times - industry news analysis and commentary
  • Government Economic Service (GES) - information about the career opportunities available and lacement schemes
  • International Monetary Fund (IMF) - recruitment information including current vacancies, the Economist Program for those under 33 and the Fund Internship Program
  • Institute of Economic Affairs - students are welcome to attend all of its public events and they also provide bursaries for students to attend the annual Political Economy Conference and the State of the Economy Conference free of charge. By subscribing students can obtain the Institute's publications at a discounted rate
  • Institute for Fiscal Studies - information about graduate recruitment and summer placements and useful weblinks
  • London Stock Exchange - provides information about member firms
  • New Economics Foundation - radical think tank brings together ideas, people, resources and influence to create practical and enterprising solutions to challenges facing local, regional, national and global economies. It offers occasional internships for economics graduates
  • Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) - recruitment information including the Young Professionals Programme
  • Overseas Development Institute operate a fellowship scheme sending postgraduate economists to work in the public sectors of developing countries
  • Prospects – for a professional insight into the careers in this industry
  • RFE: Resources for economists on the Internet - comprehensive list of resources for economists, including links to international professional organisations 
  • Society of Business Economists (SBE) - information about careers in business economics and salary surveys of business economists
