Description
Our Brown Bag Seminar Series this year will kick off with Orestis presenting "The Description - Experience gap in social context" which is joint work with Ozan and Dennie.  It takes place Thursday 28 September 1pm to 2pm in A39 Sir Clive Granger.

Abstract: According to the Description-Experience (DE) gap that is well-established in research on individual risky choice, people overweight (underweight) rare events when they learn probabilities from description (experience). However, little is known about whether a DE gap exists in social contexts. We use a modified Prisoner's Dilemma (PD) game in an online experiment to investigate this question. Interestingly, we find that in this social context a DE gap persists but its direction is reversed: rare events have more influence on decisions to cooperate in Experience than in Description. Moreover, individual categorization of social attitudes explains behavioural heterogeneity in the modified PD game.

As most of you know, Ozan will be leaving CeDEx at the end of the month so please come along to this Brown Bag and join CeDEx in wishing Ozan all the best for the future.
