Engineering and Science Foundation Electives

Students doing the engineering and science foundation year can take two 10-credit bearing modules in semesters one and two.

English for Engineering and Science Foundation A

What you will learn

This module develops your academic English and study skills in order to help you participate in your foundation year course, and then your undergraduate engineering and science studies.

What you will do

You will look at what to include in the different sections of a lab report, and practise the language that is usually found in those sections. You will also plan, research and write a short report on an area of your choosing.

How you will be assessed

Assessment is by exam and coursework, which is a written report.

English for Engineering and Science Foundation B

What you will learn

This module develops and extends your academic English and study skills in order to help you participate fully in your foundation year course, and then your undergraduate engineering and science studies.

What you will do

You will look at how to plan and deliver an oral presentation and practise the language that is used in presentations. You will also plan, research and write a slightly longer report on an area of your choosing.

How you will be assessed

Assessment is by a combination of an oral presentation and coursework, which is a written report.
