CELE Presessional English for Postgraduate Business Students
We run two programmes for students preparing for Business courses: a 10-week programme and a 5-week programme. Both run once a year, between July and September. The courses have been carefully designed to prepare students who have successfully obtained an offer for a postgraduate course at Nottingham University Business School (NUBS).
Aims
The courses develop academic language ability and study skills in order to give you the confidence to succeed in your Business School course.
We will help you:

develop and improve your language skills in all areas so that you can meet the English language level required by NUBS.

prepare for the kinds of tasks you will need to perform in your future academic studies

increase your understanding of the departmental expectations

prepare to work collaboratively with other students

develop the confidence and study skills necessary to succeed in your academic studies
Content

Here are some examples of the kind of areas and skills you will work on:

Planning and writing an academic assignment on a Business topic

Writing short essays

Reading academic textbooks and articles

Understanding lectures and note-making (with some lectures given by members of NUBS)

Participating in seminars and tutorials, and giving oral presentations

Using the Business library for study and research

Time-management
-
Independent study skills
In addition to timetabled lessons, you will be expected to study independently. A valuable feature of the programme is that you will have a weekly tutorial with your own personal tutor who will support your independent study by giving you the individual help you need.
Assessment
If you have an unconditional offer, you will progress automatically to your Masters programme. If your offer is conditional on your English language level, you will be formally assessed in Project, Essay Writing, Reading, Listening and Oral Presentation.
If you have already met the English language condition of your offer, but would like to prepare for your postgraduate Business School course, you are welcome to apply. You will also benefit greatly from this course.
