In general, my interests concern the ways meaning is determined in popular film and television texts: i.e. through their contexts of production, through the characteristics of texts themselves (narrative, genre, aesthetics), and also through their reception. I am especially drawn towards questions of cultural value, and, in particular, the creation of different models of quality in television drama.
My current research focuses on the history, industrial and critical status of the American made-for-television movie - an explicitly hybrid and traditionally undervalued genre. I am also interested in processes of remaking and repetition within media production and reception.

I am interested in a range of teaching and learning issues - but particularly those concerning collaborative learning, peer review and assessment. In particular, I am keen to explore the potential of online tools to aid collaborative learning and enhance the student experience in a higher education environment which faces the challenge of increased student numbers and sometimes large class sizes.
