The School of Psychology obtained excellent quality profiles in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE2008). Virtually all staff (95%) were classed as research active, with 60% of the research work rated as either world-leading or internationally excellent in terms of originality, significance and rigour. The School was ranked 9 th of all returning (External) Russell Group Institutions.
Research from the School has been published in various esteemed journals, including Child Development, Cognition, Current Biology, Psychological Review, Psychological Science, Journal of Experimental Psychology, Nature and Vision Research.
Our research is supported by programme grants from the Wellcome and Leverhulme Trusts, project grants from UK research councils (e.g., BBSRC, MRC, ESRC), charities (e.g., Stroke Association) and industry. The School is making substantial investments in building up a critical mass of research students and funds approximately 8 PhD studentships per year, as well as providing a research environment for students with other sources of funding.
Research in the School falls across the spectrum of psychological investigation, as demonstrated in our four core research areas (and sub groups):
Personality, Social Psychology & Health
The School of Psychology also plays a fundamental role in the University's Institutes, all recognised nationally and internationally for their excellent interdisciplinary research.
We also co-host the Brain and Body Centre
The members of the School collaborate with many other schools and departments, particularly the (External) MRC Institute of Hearing Research and the University's Medical School .
