EU FP7 meeting at CGS

Description
Professor Ron Li from Ohio State University will be visiting CGS next week. The purpose of Ron's visit is to attend an EU FP7 project meeting that CGS is hosting. The project, "Planetary Robotics Vision Ground Processing" or PRoVisG (http://www.provisg.eu), involves photogrammetric processing of Mars rover data, new camera design, and the integration of rover data with other data such as orbital imagery and photogrammetric products.

CGS becomes an honorary member of the gvSIG Association

Description
The Centre for Geospatial Science (CGS) has accepted an invitation to join the gvSIG Association as an Honorary Member. In signing the collaboration agreement it becomes the first research centre in the UK to be accepted as an Honorary member of the gvSIG Association. The agreement was signed by Mrs. Amelia del Rey on behalf of the gvSIG Association as Business Development Manager and Dr. Suchith Anand on behalf of the Centre for Geospatial Science, University of Nottingham.

JISC funding success for ELOGeo

Description
JISC has awarded Professor Mike Jackson and Dr Amir Pourabdollah funding for a research project titled 'An e-Learning Framework for Using Geospatial Open Data, Open Source and Open Standards' (ELOGeo). ELOGeo project is a JISC-funded project based at the Centre for Geospatial Science in partnership with Mimas Centre of Excellence at the University of Manchester.

Award for the Encyclopedia of Geography

Description
SAGE Reference has recently announced that the Encyclopedia of Geography has recently received an "Outstanding Reference Source" award at the American Library Association midwinter meeting. CGS member Kristin Stock contributed to the encyclopedia.

Summer Research Placement Opportunities

Description
Interested in the possibility of a PhD and would like a taster experience? Then read on.We would like to bring to your attention an opportunity for second year or penultimate year undergraduate University of Nottingham students to gain valuable research experience over the summer vacation period in the Faculty of Engineering. You will need to demonstrate a strong interest in the possibility of doing a PhD and have high pass marks (students with marks indicating a 1st Class degree classification are preferred).

Engineering Research Placement Scheme

Description
Please bring the following Open Source projects under the Engineering Research Placement (ERP) programme to the attention of interested students. We welcome applications from top quality UG students (70 percent above) in all disciplines from the University of Nottingham having strong programming, mathematical and analytical skills. Experience in open source GIS software development is desirable but not necessary as training will be given. We recommend that students apply early as placements are very competitive.
