Biography

Dr. Elena Bichoutskaia obtained her M.Sc. in Physics in 1993, and Ph.D. in Physics and Mathematics in 2000 from St.Petersburg State University, Russia. In 1997, she held a Russian President Research Scholarship at the Queen's University of Belfast. In 2000, she returned to the Queen's University of Belfast as a Royal Society NATO postdoctoral research fellow. There followed postdoctoral research appointments in Chemistry at the Universities of Nottingham, Sussex and Cambridge. In 2007, Dr. Bichoutskaia was awarded a Royal Society UK Relocation Fellowship and moved back to Nottingham. In 2007, she was a Visiting Academic Research Fellow at the Australian National University. In 2008, Dr. Bichoutskaia was awarded an EPSRC Career Acceleration Fellowship for the period 2008-2013. In February 2011, Dr. Bichoutskaia was appointed to a Lecturer in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry at Nottingham.

development of theoretical approaches to prediction of materials properties; atomistic simulations of crystal structure and solids; computational modelling of the behaviour, properties and manipulation of carbon nanomaterials; design of electromechanical devices at the nanoscale; weak van der Waals forces in molecules and solids; electrostatic interactions at the nanoscale; gas storage and interactions in porous solids.
