Lecturer in Organic Chemistry, Faculty of Science
Dr Camp began his research career at The University of California, Davis (1996-2000) where he carried out undergraduate research with Professor Alan Balch. While at UC Davis he participated in the University of California Education Abroad program spending a year at Adelaide University (1998), Australia during which he did research with Professor Geoffrey T. Crisp. He continued his education at the graduate school of Colorado State University under the mentorship of Professor Robert M. Williams (2000-2002). After transferring to The Pennsylvania State University in June, 2002 he joined Professor Steven M. Weinreb's group and received his PhD in fall 2007. In January of 2008 he moved to the UK to take up a postdoctoral position with Professor Donald Craig at Imperial College London. He began his independent research career as a Lecturer in Organic Chemistry at the University of Nottingham in September 2009.

Our research is focused on the development of mild, sustainable and environmentally friendly synthetic methods for the formation of added-value compounds from simple starting materials. Specifically we are interested in the ability of one metal to catalyse multiple unique processes in a reaction sequence, multifaceted catalysis. This sort of transformation allows for the synthesis of fine chemicals, natural products, pharmaceuticals, materials and agrochemicals at a reduced overall cost in terms of time, expense and waste production. To date these studies have resulted in: (a) a novel method for the regioselective synthesis of highly substituted pyrroles under gold catalysis, and (b) the catalytic activation of nitriles towards nucleophiles.
