Biography
I completed my undergraduate masters and a Ph.D. in chemistry. Following completion of my studies I took on a role as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, fortifying my technical knowledge and gaining experience of teaching. At that time, I also launched and managed a state-of-the-art chemistry laboratory at UoN. During this period as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, I developed a broader understanding of commercialisation of research, and this drove me to change my career trajectory. I joined the Business Partnership Unit (BPU) as a Business Science Fellow (BSF) to undertake the business development activities working under Prof. Trevor Farren. I was subsequently promoted to a role as a Senior Project Manager (SPM) in the BPU, where I concurrently managed a portfolio of innovation and international-focussed projects worth in excess £8m across several Schools in the Faculty of Science, working with a diverse range of Funders including InnovateUK, British Council, ERC and UKRI. As both a BSF and SPM I worked alongside academics to develop early-stage IP commercialisation opportunities. I have significant experience in all forms of interactions between the University and businesses for example collaborative research, translational/commercialisation projects and/or services rendered. I have assisted with cross-disciplinary commercialisation activities across both Engineering and Science, with a particular focus on projects aligned with the EPSRC Impact Accelerator Account. In Spring 2023 I commenced a secondment as a Senior Executive in the UoN Faculty of Science Innovation Hub working to accelerate the commercialisation of intellectual property arising from the Faculty of Science, through nurturing proof of concept activities. In Summer 2023 I left the Faculty of Science to join the University of Nottingham's IP Commercialisation Office as the Team Lead and Senior IP Commercialisation Executive for Engineering and Physical Sciences.
