Undergraduate Visit Days

There are two main opportunities for you to visit the School. Pre-applicants may attend the University-wide Open Days and suitably qualified applicants are usually invited to an interview held on a School of Chemistry UCAS Visit Day.

University Days

The University-wide open days take place each year in June/July and September and are designed to give you the opportunity to see The University of Nottingham prior to completing the UCAS form. During the open days there are talks and tours offering information specific to the University as well as advice on many aspects of university life, which will be of benefit to you wherever you decide to study. The School of Chemistry participates and provides a special programme for students interested in pursing chemistry at university:

• Take a guided 20-minute tour of our laboratories and learn more about our teaching and exciting, world-leading research. Tours run throughout the day.
• See our state-of-the-art instrumentation and our laboratories in action.
• Attend a 30-minute talk at 11.00 am or 2.30 pm to learn about the opportunities available for you as an undergraduate at one of the best Schools of Chemistry in the UK.
• Meet with current students and academics and ask as many questions as you can about our research, our courses and life at The University of Nottingham.
• Watch our spectacular Excitement of Chemistry Lecture with live demonstrations. The 45 minute lecture starts at 1.00 pm.

If you are not able to visit the campus on one of the open days, we recommend that you book a place on one of the University campus tour days.

School of Chemistry UCAS Visit Days

Suitably qualified UCAS applicants will be invited to attend a visit day at the School of Chemistry.  This day may involve other Schools if you are applying for Joint Honours programmes.  UCAS visit Days are held throughout November, December, February and March.

The Chemistry UCAS Visit Day

The principal aim of the UCAS visit day is to help with the important decision: "Is Nottingham the place for you?" With this in mind, we have arranged a programme that gives you as much opportunity as possible to discover more about the School of Chemistry, about our courses and about living in Nottingham. 

• We will discuss the details of our degree programmes and we take you on two short tours of the School of Chemistry and the campus including a visit to a hall of residence and a student study-bedroom.
• There will be plenty of opportunity for you to ask questions about life at Nottingham - members of staff and postgraduate and undergraduate students will be available over lunch and during the afternoon to speak with you.
• You will also meet one-to-one with a member of academic staff for a short interview where you will discuss your interest in chemistry, a recent topic that you have studied recently and your wider interests. The interview also provides an excellent opportunity for you to ask questions too.

We suggest that you treat the day very much as a fact-finding expedition; use it to find out as much as possible about the School, University and City and use it to help you decide whether Nottingham is the place for you.

When does the UCAS Day begin and end?

The day begins at 12.00 pm where we all meet in the foyer of The School of Chemistry . The day finishes at 4.00 pm when prospective students are free to depart.

Is there a Programme for Accompanying Persons?

We welcome accompanying guests to the School and we have arranged a programme for them including a tour and opportunities for discussions with staff and current undergraduate students.
