Leading scholars debate Chinese development to 2020 at prestigious China forum

Description
Around 200 experts in the study of modern China gathered at the two-day forum to debate the challenges facing the country in the years leading up to 2020 and the policies that can guide China through the decade unscathed.

Nottingham Confucius Institute successfully hosts the Third Mandarin Speech Contest

Description
The Third "China and Me" Mandarin Speech Contest was successfully held on the University Park Campus on 9 November 2011. A total of 30 contestants of different nationalities including British, French, Italian, Kazakh, Thai and South Korean took part. The audience included over 80 students and staff who expressed their enthusiasm and support with warm rounds of applause for each performance.

Nottingham defeats Harvard at 2011 International Varsity Debate

Description
Nottingham beat Harvard earlier today at the 2011 International Varsity Debate organised by Central China Television (CCTV) in Qingdao, China. The Nottingham debate team consists of three students from the School of Contemporary Chinese Studies (SCCS): Ricky Jeavons and Kenrick Davis, both third year BA Contemporary Chinese Studies undergraduates, and Peter McSweeney, an MA student in English/Chinese Interpretation and Translation, graduating in December 2011.
