FAQs for Postgraduate Courses

Is it possible to study a masters course on a part time or distance learning basis at the School of Contemporary Chinese Studies?

At present all masters courses can only be studied on a full time basis. It is possible that in the future we may offer more flexible learning options.

When do the courses start?

The Masters courses run from September to September .

What background knowledge do I need?

What are the entry requirements?

For entry to all masters’ courses, candidates are normally expected to have at least a 2:1 Honours degree or equivalent from an accredited university in an appropriate discipline. Candidates with a high 2:2 or equivalent will be considered on a discretionary basis.

NB Candidates whose first language is not English, but who have been awarded a qualification from a recognised UK educational institution, maybe exempt from the English language requirement.

Do I need an English Language qualification before I apply?

It is not necessary to obtain an English Language qualification before you apply but if your application is successful, the English Language qualifications will be part of the conditions of your offer. You will need to provide proof that you have obtained the qualifications before you register with us as a student and commence your studies.

Do you hold interviews?

We do not normally hold interviews for Masters courses but further information relating to your qualifications may be requested and if necessary a meeting (face-to-face or via the telephone or skype) to discuss these may be required.

Do I need to send original documents with my application?

No, but any offer will be conditional until you have provided either the originals or certified copies of your degree transcripts and certificates. You will not be allowed to register until you have met the conditions of your offer.

Once an application has been submitted, how long does it take to receive a decision?
