The School of Contemporary Chinese Studies is committed to undertaking and promoting advanced interdisciplinary social sciences research into key aspects of the rapid changes currently underway in China.

Staff members are widely published in books, book chapters, and international peer-reviewed journals. Their research interests are summarised on the Research Highlights sections of this website.

 

 

Seminar Series

SCCS runs a thriving regular seminar series, lunchtime seminars and the annual International Forum for Contemporary Chinese Studies (IFCCS) conferences among its varied research activities.

 

RAE 2008

In the UK's 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, SCCS was ranked fourth in terms of research power in Area Studies. Among the 13 staff members entered in the RAE, 70% of all the publications were rated internationally or nationally excellent.

 

China Policy Institute

The China Policy Institute - the research institute for SCCS -produces cutting-edge and contemporary policy-oriented research on economic, politics, environment, culture, history and other contemporary issues confronting China.
