Biography

- MA Natural Sciences (Pharmacology), University of Cambridge (2000) - MSc Epidemiology, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (2002) - PhD Epidemiology, University of Nottingham (2010) : The epidemiology of cirrhosis and abnormal liver function in the general population of the UK

Following my masters degree in epidemiology I worked for the Confidential Enquiry into Maternal and Child Health as a Data Analyst, then Senior Data Analyst and acting Director of Research and Development before beginning employment at the University of Nottingham in 2006.

I was appointed as a Lecturer in Epidemiology in 2011.

Expertise Summary

My primary research interest is in utilising routine data sources to study the epidemiology of chronic diseases.

My recent research has largely focussed on the incidence and consequences of liver disease in the general population of the UK using the General Practice Research Database.

I am involved in several ongoing pieces of work in gastrointestinal disease epidemiology and perinatal epidemiology.

I am currently module co-convenor with Dr Matthew Grainge for 'Critical Thinking Skills in Epidemiology and Public Health' as part of the teaching delivered to BMedSci students who choose Epidemiology and Public Health as their 3rd year homebase.

I am involved in the teaching of epidemiology and medical statistics to undergraduates and postgraduates at the University of Nottingham and to clinicians as part of their continuing professional development through the ASNEMGE Young Investigators' Meetings www.asnemge.org

I am an Associate of the Higher Education Academy.
