Developmental Psychiatry

The main themes of developmental psychiatry research are:

1. The clarification of the causal processes involved in neurodevelopmental disorders, in particular:

• Perinatal and developmental epidemiology (population birth cohorts)
• neuropsychological studies of ADHD/ hyperkinesis
• developmental language and communication disorders
• child and adolescent-onset schizophrenia and affective psychoses
• paediatric psychopharmacology
• behavioural phenotypes

2. Health services and intervention research, in particular:

• school-based RCTs for ADHD and depression
• child and adolescent mental health in primary care.
• applied health research on outcomes, medication management, and parenting interventions (Children's and Young Peoples theme within the NIHR CLAHRC ).
