Current Research

Dr Kelly works with Associate Professor Dr Rob Jones and a wider academic team on a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funded project. The aim of the project is to develop an evidence-based 'service template' and measuring tool (Fidelity Index) for home care services, specifically for people with dementia. The project comprises two phases:

Phase I:

  • Developing an evidence-based service template specifying the appropriate approaches for home support teams
  • Establishing a measuring instrument (a Fidelity Index) to assess how faithfully critical components of service delivery match the template.

------------

Phase II:

  • Field-testing the Fidelity Index, working with key stakeholders from around thirty home support services located across the Trent region. These include both inner city / urban and rural settings operating specialist and generic models of home support for people with dementia.
  • Upon completion of the research, the template and the Fidelity Index will be made widely available for use by commissioners and providers to use in auditing and improving their services.

He has previously undertaken research in the area of health and safety law, investigating how it impacts upon the residents of care homes for older people. He has also worked with Professor Irene Hardill from Northumbria University on a project looking at knowledge transfer initiatives between Scottish Universities and their Local Authority or Voluntary sector partners.
