Current Research

Dr Matheson is currently researching on a wide range of themes, including the use of Wikipedia as an aid to clinical decision-making, teaching of cataract surgery and health and safety in ophthalmology.

  • Perceptions of preparedness for practice of new doctor and what is important for a new doctor.
  • The lasting impact of the preparation for F1 course.
  • How education supervisors are conceptualised, in conjunction with East Midlands Healthcare Workforce Deanery.
  • Finals-Oriented OSCE Training scheme [FOOT]: Evaluation of this is ongoing and work around FOOT has been presented at various international and national conferences.
  • Programme of Education Supervisor Training (PEST) scheme. Evaluation of this is ongoing.
  • The lasting impact of the Teaching Improvement Programme System (TIPS) and Teaching and Assessing Clinical Skills (TACS).
