Research Interests
My broad research interests concern the examination of behavioural and neural substrates of cognitive control in healthy and clinical populations. Of particular relevance is the study of the psychological and neural underpinnings of attentional and executive function mechanisms involved in such processes as action and response selection, conflict monitoring and response inhibition/suppression. I'm also interested in the interaction between emotional/motivational factors and cognitive function in both normal and abnormal states.
My previous work has primarily involved the study of behavioural, electrophysiological and neuronal correlates of error and conflict monitoring in acute and remitted phases of Major Depression as well as in induced states of transient sadness. The main focus of my current research is the investigation of the impact of psychosocial, motivational and physical factors on cognitive function in young people with Tourette's and particularly the contribution of such factors to the expression of tics and the ability to control them.
