Biography

Dr Gillian Doody qualified in Medicine in 1987 at St Mary's Hospital Medical School, University of London, having obtained a BSc in Psychology in 1984 from the University College London. She undertook basic psychiatry training in Fife, and then a brief neurosurgical stint in Newcastle. She obtained her MRC Psych. in 1992 as well as an MPhil in Clinical Psychiatry from Edinburgh University. She was awarded a Wellcome Clinical Training Fellowship in 1994 in the relevance of learning disability to schizophrenia. She then obtained an MD with Distinction from Edinburgh University in 1998. Having completed her Higher Psychiatric Training in Edinburgh in 1998, she moved to Nottingham University in 1999 as a Senior Lecturer in General Adult Psychiatry. She obtained a M. Med. Sci. in Medical Education from the University of Nottingham in 2009.

Research Summary

Dr Doody's main area of research interest is the epidemiology and aetiology of schizophrenia, including the role of drug misuse in the evolution of psychosis.

She also undertakes research in medical education focussing on selection processes, communication skills teaching and postgraduate learning styles.
