Biography

Dr Matthew Grainge achieved his BSc in Statistics at Reading University and his MSc in Medical Statistics at the University of Leicester, before going on to complete his PhD on the topic of cervical screening and human papillomavirus at the University of Nottingham.

Current Research

Dr Grainge has developed a successful research programme in the areas of database and cancer epidemiology, as well as contributing to the success of the gastrointestinal research group in the division. His main research interests are:

• Prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE) through identification of the within-person periods of greatest risk in specified patient groups, for example cancer patients and pregnant women.
• Use of general practice databases to carry out research in gastroenterology, cancer, and other areas of clinical epidemiology.
• Cancer epidemiology and prognosis, especially relating to colorectal and breast cancer.
• Adoption of novel methodological techniques in the design and analysis of data from observational studies and clinical trials.
