Current Research

Dr Hunt is an Associate Professor in Health Psychology at the Institute of Work, Health & Organisations (I-WHO) at the University of Nottingham, and a member of the Traumatic Stress Research Group. His main research interests concern the consequences of traumatic experiences, particularly in relation to memory, coping and narrative development, and the interpersonal transmission of traumatic memories. He is currently involved in a number of research projects examining aspects of traumatic stress. He is a Chartered Health Psychologist and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society.

The focus of Dr Hunt's research is the responses people have to difficult situations, particularly in relation to traumatic incidents such as war and disfigurement. For instance, he is currently involved in research with Balkan refugees, war veterans, and people with dermatological disorders such as alopecia. The relationship between memory and trauma is also of interest, particularly in the ways in which people appraise and cope with traumatic incidents through the development of narratives. He also looks at the long-term impact of people living under communism in Eastern Europe, as well as the impact of the war in Iraq on Iraqis, and how the survivors of the Chinese earthquake cope with the impact of traumatic stress and interventions.

Past Research

His PhD examined the long term psychological impact of war experience on World War Two veterans (Wellcome Trust/New Scientist prize). He has also researched on the impact of war in Bosnia, emotional intelligence & trauma, trauma in train drivers, WWII evacuees and covert aggression.
