Current Research

Sarah Goldberg is currently involved in the Medical Crises in Older People (MCOP) programme grant funded by the NIHR. She is working on an evaluation of acute hospital care for older people with mental health problems such as dementia, delirium and depression.

Further information about this project:

  • The first stage- a cohort study of older people with mental health problems admitted to the hospital as a medical emergency and their six month outcomes.
  • The second stage- a controlled clinical trial of a medical and mental health unit developed to improve the acute hospital care of older people admitted to the hospital as an emergency who also have confusion (predominantly dementia or delirium).

------------

She is also the lead applicant on a grant from the Research for Patient Benefits fund (RfPB), which evaluates the patient experience and quality of care on the medical and mental health unit compared to the other wards. This study uses the observational tool dementia care mapping.
