Postgraduate Study in the School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies

Welcome to our Postgraduate Study pages

We have a large and thriving community of over 100 postgraduate students in the School. Roughly half our students are on a range of taught Masters degrees, the others are engaged in PhD and Masters research on a very wide variety of topics and in several different disciplines. Most students are full-time, but we also have a substantial number of part-time students. Our postgraduate community is multi-lingual, multi-ethnic, multi-national and we have students from all the stages in life, from mid-twenties to post-retirement.  All of this makes for a rich, supportive and stimulating postgraduate experience. Our School has an international reputation for the quality and breadth of its research. If you study with us, you know you are in one of the best academic environments in the country.

Subject-Specific

Our School is organised in 7 departments. As a research or taught MA student, you will have a home in one of these departments, even if your research or taught modules involve input from more than one department. If you click on the links below, you can go to the Postgraduate sections for each department.

Interdisciplinary

If you would like some more general information, to start with, on the range of taught MA and research degrees we offer, use the links below to see our brochures.
