Teacher Undergraduate Russian and Slovene Postgraduate Diploma, Faculty of Arts
Born Leeds in 1957, I studied Slavonic Studies (Russian and Serbo-Croat) at Nottingham University between 1976 and 1980. PhD "The Life and Works of Ciril Kosmac", a Slovene writer, was completed in 1984 in the Department of Slavonic Studies, Nottingham.
My area of expertise is teaching Slavonic languages, Russian and Slovene in particular at present.
My background prior to work at the University of Nottingham was related to the Intelligence Community as a Ministry of Defence Civil Servant (Language Instructor). I have specialist knowledge of military terminology in Russian and Serbo-Croat. Currently I am interested in the Russian media. On two occassions I gained appointments within the US Foreign Broadcast and Information Service FBIS (Reading and Vienna) as a professional translator (Russian) for the US Government. More recently I have worked and continue to work as an associate translator for two Ljubljana-based translation agencies, amidas and alkemist. I frequently attend the annual Seminar of Slovene Language, Literature and Culture in Ljubljana.
