  1. In all language teaching I am particularly interested in observing how the native language of the learner may influence the way in which he/she learns the target language. I have taught students from a wide range of linguistic backgrounds and now work extensively with students whose native language is Mandarin. I am co-ordinator for all UNNC exchange students who are studying language modules with the Language Centre.
  2. I hope to promote the development of translating and interpreting courses in the Language Centre and have helped to establish the MA course in Chinese/English Translating and Interpreting.
  3. After a period of residence in Borneo I have developed an interest in the Malay language and culture and have delivered courses for staff and PGs both in the UK and Malaysia. I hope to increase the awareness of the importance of Bahasa Malaysia in a world context.
