I specialise in the interface between television and politics, examining television programme design, rights of access, modes of interaction and the contribution of these to the democratic process. I have recently worked on the 2007 presidential election in France, and I am currently engaged in work on the forthcoming French and US presidential elections of 2012.
I have studied political debate programmes broadcast on French television since the 1950s, examining questions of programme design and participation. In particular I have analysed the participation of women politicians and members of the public in such programmes, and the use of gender as a socio-cultural identifier in women politicians' political communication. I have participated in two international projects: one run by Michel Tournier of the Ecole Normale Supérieure examining media coverage of the 1995 presidential election, another run by Simone Bonnafous (Paris XII) and Marlène Coulomb-Gully (Toulouse-Le Mirail) analysing media coverage of International Women's Day in 2005.
I am working on television in the 2012 French presidential election and am also engaged in an international project led by Professor Jacques Gerstlé (Paris-Sorbonne) engaged in a comparative study of the French and US elections of 2012.
