Facilities

The university  provides students with access to general IT facilities through a number of Computer Rooms spread across its campuses. Such areas are conveniently located around the University in all University Libraries.

The majority of Computer Rooms are open to all members of the University and contain PC workstations and printing facilities. In some of the larger rooms more specialised equipment is provided such as text and image scanners, colour printing and high powered Unix workstations.

Connected Campus Network Zones are areas in the University where students can either access wireless networking or plug laptops directly into the University network. This is a major development which provide students with roaming access to the internet and University network. 

The School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies is situated in Trent Building, which is located in the parkland heart of the main university campus and is in easy walking distance from all on-campus student accommodation. The building has numerous teaching rooms for seminar use, and several lecture theatres equipped with state-of-the-art audio-visual facilities, plus the School's Language Centre has excellent language laboratories and a digital classroom.  

The Language Centre

Our Language Centre offers students the use of the Self Access Centre, which contains language learning resources for self-study - books, audio/video tapes, satellite TV, reading, reference and multimedia materials. The SAC environment encourages independent learning and enables you to study whatever you want, at your own pace.

We also offer Tandem learning, which is a conversation exchange scheme where you are matched to a native speaker of the language you are studying. This allows you to practise your chosen language and help your partner improve their English.
