International Students

NU-People-CircleRF

The School welcomes students from many countries. We realise that international study is both intellectually rewarding and personally challenging.

Language Support

All courses in the School after taught and assessed in English and admission is dependent on proven English proficiency. The Centre for English Language Education (CELE) offers classes for both undergraduate and graduate students.  However, the School also provides additional tutorial support for students who are not native English speakers. These address both oral and written communication.

Visas and Finance

The University’s International Office is the main source of support and guidance with regard to visa requirements and provides extensive support for students here. The International Office also operates various university-wide scholarship competitions that supplement the School’s scholarship schemes that principally target students from partner institutions. European Union students, including those from new accession countries are eligible for AHRC funding which may cover the full cost of tuition.

Accommodation and Welfare

Residence in halls or in other forms of rented accommodation is coordinated by the Accommodation Office. While every student has a personal tutor who is a member of the academic staff to advise them on matters relating to their course, many welfare issues are best discussed with expert staff in the University’s student support services or the Students Union.
