Words of the World

Words of the World is a definition-based crossword made up of words which are now commonplace in the English language but which actually derive from the languages and cultures we study in the School. If you click on one of the words you will see one of our staff in French, German, Russian and Slavonic Studies or Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies explaining where that word comes from, what it sounds like in the original language, and what its journey from its linguistic home into modern-day English has been. We are constantly expanding our crossword, so each time you visit the website, you will find new explorations.
