Final School of Modern Languages and Cultures Alumni Celebration
Saturday 25th June Lenton & Wortley Hall, University Park
We are delighted to announce that in 2011 the School of Modern Languages and Cultures will team up with the School of American and Canadian Studies to form a brand new School so this celebration is to say farewell to the old School and welcome in the new.
With this in mind we would like to invite back former students from our various departments to mark the occasion and to relive old times and have organized our second alumni event building on our very successful event last May. This will be a three-course dinner and entertainment so please join us to raise a toast to the future of University education in the UK.
Programme:
4.00pm onwards Registration with tea, coffee and display.
6.00pm Bar open for pre-dinner drinks
7.00pm Dinner plus entertainment
An after dinner talk will be given by a former member of staff, plus contributions from teaching staff across the School, retired staff and current students. This will enable you to reminisce, meet old friends, and be updated on recent developments.
The cost per person is £15.00 for dinner including a glass of wine. En suite single accommodation with breakfast is available in the hall at £28.90 per person
We have also timed the event to coincide with one of the main University Open Days and hope you will make the most of this opportunity to revisit old haunts and to get a feel for the university as it is today.
Please book by contacting Sue Daley susan.daley@nottingham.ac.uk
We will be running a “Funniest Year Abroad” Essay competition. If anything funny happened to you while you were on your Year Abroad, let us know about it in no more than 500 words. We will be awarding prizes to the two best entries.
If you have any photographs or other memorabilia from your time at Nottingham, or indeed anything you have done subsequently that would be of interest we would love to display these in an exhibition, even if you are not able to attend. We will of course return all items after the event.
Please send all contributions and “essays” to Sarah Wullink, School of Modern Languages and Cultures, University of Nottingham, University Park, Nottingham, NG7 2RD. Tel: 0115 8468233 or email Sarah Wullink.
If you have you fond memories of the departments of French, Russian & Slavonic Studies, German, Hispanic Studies (now Spanish, Portuguese & Latin American Studies), Critical Theory, Cultural Studies, Film and TV Studies or the Language Centre we would like to hear your views and pool ideas on how we can collaborate more closely with our alumni, and how you might get involved more closely with the School.
Unfortunately we do lose touch with some of our alumni and are therefore unable to provide them with the University publications or to let them know about events in which they may be interested.
Can you help us to find them? If you are in contact with any of the alumni on our 'Lost
alumni list' we would be really grateful if you would encourage them to register with Nottingham Online or
e-mail us
We look forward to welcoming you back to the university.
Best wishes,
Catherine Davies
