War and Peace in the Life of Language: A Symposium on the Role of Extra- and Intralinguistic Conflicts in the Development of Language Theory and Practice

War and Peace in the Life of Language: A Symposium on the Role of Extra- and Intralinguistic Conflicts in the Development of Language Theory and Practice is an international linguistics symposium focusing on the role of conflict in the development of language theory and practice. The 18 papers focus on three main topics: Language Change as a Solution of Conflict?, Conflicting Approaches to Language Teaching and Language Policies as a Source of Conflict.

The three keynote speakers are Prof Hilary Footitt (University of Reading), Prof Derek Offord (University of Bristol) and Prof Nikolai Vakhtin (European University, St. Petersburg).

The symposium is jointly organised by colleagues at the Universities of Birmingham and Nottingham, and takes place on 25 and 26 April 2014 at the University of Nottingham (UK Campus).
