Biography
I hold an MA in Education (English and Biology) from Kiev University; MA in Higher Education from Nottingham University; Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI) Law Option,Charted Institute of Linguists; Certificate in Conference Interpreting (CCIC), Cambridge.
I have been teaching Russian and Interpreting at the University of Nottingham since 1995. In addition to my teaching, I have a wide experience in practical translation and interpreting, having worked for a wide variety of clients, including MOJ, NHS, Refugee Forum, DVLA, etc.
I use my knowledge from research into teaching and learning to enhance my students' learning experience. I have created a comprehensive range of teaching and open learning materials by using the latest learning technology, which was instrumental in providing access to a high-quality online environment to meet students' diverse learning needs. Using specially devised group projects and innovative forms of assessment I have contributed to students' development as independent, reflective members of a learning community, prepared to face future professional challenges as lifelong learners.
When I teach I always try to imagine myself being a student in my class and try to make my classes interesting, informative and enjoyable. I strive to create the atmosphere of exploration and discovery in every lesson, make students question their assumptions, listen to others, work as a team, enjoy challenges, take pleasure in knowledge creation and nurture the awareness of personal development.
In 2012 my teaching was recognised by a Lord Dearing Award.
