Welcome help for students studying in Russia
The family of 1956 alumnus Malcolm Warwick, who achieved a 1st class honours degree in Russian and Slavonic Studies and who died in January 2010, have carried out his wish to create an endowment fund for year abroad scholarships.
Every year from 2012/13 this fund will provide £2,500 each to two students spending their third year in Russia or Serbia, and will be known as The Malcolm Warwick Year Abroad Scholarships. These awards will be most welcome as it is expensive for Nottingham undergraduates to travel to and study in Eastern Europe. More students will now have greater freedom and choice when planning their third year abroad, which forms a compulsory part of a language degree. This is an opportunity which not only improves language skills, but enhances students’ success and equips them for future life.
The University of Nottingham’s Department of Russian and Slavonic Studies is a renowned and internationally recognised centre for its excellent research and teaching. The Department is delighted to receive this generous gift and grateful that Mr Warwick’s family have been able to honour Malcolm’s wish to help future students of Russian and Serbian.
