Postgraduate Language Diploma in Russian, Serbian/Croatian or Slovene
The Department of Russian and Slavonic Studies offers a language course for postgraduate students in the following Slavonic Languages:
-
Russian
-
Serbian/Croatian
-
Slovene
The course is taught intensively with some 10 to 12 contact hours weekly. This ab-initio course is aimed at students intending to undertake doctoral research in Slavonic and East European Studies (literature, history, politics, etc) and for those intending to pursue a language-related career as an interpreter or translator.
Course Structure
The course consists of 120 credits taken as two 60-credit modules (Autumn and Spring Semesters) over nine months full-time from September to June. The first semester covers the basic grammar and vocabulary of Russian, Serbian/Croatian or Slovene. In the second semester students continue language study to an advanced level with an added focus on their intended research topic or other language specialization as appropriate. If desired the first semester 60-credit module (the intensive beginners course) may be taken as a self-standing Certificate in Russian.
Assessment
The work in both semesters is examined by a mixture of coursework, written examination and oral examination.
