Welcome to the Institute for Middle Eastern Studies 

The Institute for Middle Eastern Studies (IMES) is a free-standing interdisciplinary institue at one of the leading teaching and research universities, located within the School of Modern Languages and Cultures.

The inter-disciplinary character of IMES and distinguished staff combines a wide range of knowledge and expertise of the cultures, languages, the economics, politics and histories of the Middle Eastern region.

IMES also has links with many institutions both in the Middle East and wider world.

IMES offers an MA in Contemporary Middle East Studies, there is an Islamic and Middle Eastern History Pathway offered by the School of History's MA programme.

Teaching is undertaken by staff in a number of different departments in the University of Nottingham with interests in the Middle East region, particularly in the Schools of:

Associate institutes include the Institute for Asian-Pacific Studies (IAPS).
