Research Projects

 

The School is home to various research projects, which are usually funded by the AHRC or by Leverhulme.  Four major projects are listed below: 

Landless Voices (2000-2004)

Director Bernard McGuirk, with Else Viera. This project analyses the predicament of the rural landless in Brazil and anthologises the culture, in art and poetry, of the Movimento Sem Terra, the people of the Landless Movement. Go to the Landless Voices website.

Gendering Latin America (2001-2006)

Director Catherine Davies in collaboration with Hilary Owen, Manchester, AHRC-funded  This project studies the contribution of women activists, writers and journalists to Latin American Independence through the print media. Go to the Gendering Latin America website. 

Literature, Politics and the Reader in Revolutionary Cuba (2006-2009)

Director Antoni Kapcia, with Par Kumaraswami, Manchester, Leverhulme-dfunded. Go to the Centre for Research on Cuba website.

The Library of the Count-Duke of Olivares (2008-2010)

Director Jeremy Lawrance, AHRC-funded. This project studies the library of the Count-Duke and broader issues of Spanish culture and politics in the period and the history of the book. Go to Olivares Library webpage.
