The CLAS (School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies) takes part in the Universitas 21/University- wide exchange programme which is a competitive programme open to ALL schools and departments at Nottingham University. It offers full time students the opportunity to study at one of the University of Nottingham partner universities as part of their degree programme. For students from CLAS the U21/University-wide exchange programme is not compulsory (unlike the year abroad) but awards academically strong students with an average of 60% or more the opportunity to spend one semester of their second year of study at one of our partner universities in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, or the USA.

During their stay at the partner University, CLAS students continue their studies: they take core language modules and non-language modules matching the credits they would have taken in Nottingham (usually 60 credits). On their return to Nottingham marks and credits obtained overseas are adjusted to CLAS standard and count towards Part I of students’ Nottingham degree.

Students from Cultures, Languages and Area Studies can also enhance their international experience by applying to study abroad at a summer school (including a variety of European options) and attending events running during the International Education Week in November. These opportunities are open to students across the University
