European Day of Languages

EDL2007logoweb

The European Day of Languages, held annually on September 26th was decided by the Council of Europe in 2001 and seeks to celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity and promote the importance of language learning.

The Language Centre in the School of Languages, Cultures and Area Studies holds an event for year 9 pupils from local schools.

The event aims to introduce pupils to taster sessions in a range of languages more diverse than they may have experience of at school, to increase intercultural awareness and to demonstrate the language learning facilities available at university with a view to raising awareness and increasing the uptake of languages in schools.

Activities include:

  • Taster Language Sessions
  • Activity packs
  • Language lab hands on session
  • Introduction to the self-access centre resources
