Biography

Peter Meineck has achieved an international reputation as a translator and director of ancient Greek drama (especially tragedy, but also comedy). He has research interests in ancient drama and culture; Greek history, mythology, religion and politics; Greek language and literature; cross-cultural theatre; political drama; and theatre in education; as well as Arts Marketing and Development.

He has taught at New York University for many years and has held positions and distinctions in a number of institutions, and is currently working on a book for Oxford University Press on theatrical opsis (visuality) in Greek drama. He contributes to the Department's teaching by assisting with modules on ancient drama (especially performance aspects) and its reception, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

He is currently working towards a doctorate under the supervision of Alan Sommerstein and Judith Mossman.
