Student IT Consultants

November 9th is the launch of The University of Nottingham’s new student IT Community Consultancy Project, which is a partnership with the Careers and Employability Service, Community Partnerships, the School of Computer Science and Accenture. Eight computer science students are being offered the chance to get involved in a new community project that will give them a taste of what they could be doing in the world of work once they graduate.

The project will run for 6 months and students will work in pairs to provide technology solutions to help improve a local charity’s performance – from improving existing systems to piloting new and innovative approaches.

They will have the chance to:

  •  Improve their job prospects
  •  Get invaluable work experience
  •  Make a difference in the local community

Accenture are sponsoring the project and are providing mentors for the students, who will offer their expertise and advice. “This project takes learning out of the lecture theatre and into the real world, giving you the edge that we look for as a graduate recruiter." Dave Andrews, Accenture.

Accenture’s sponsorship has enabled us to reflect the value of the students’ expertise and to enable them to commit fully to the project, by offering each participating student a grant of £500.

Local charities who are taking part in project include:

  •  Hostels Liaison Group
  •  The Renewal Trust
  •  Playworks
  •  Women’s Aid Integrated Service

“We are forward to working in partnership with the University and feels that this is a fantastic opportunity to access the knowledge and expertise of its students for a project that will be of great benefit to homeless and vulnerably housed people. We are also pleased to be able to offer students some real work experience within the Voluntary Sector, which we hope will be as valuable to them as it will be to us” Catherine Cook at the Hostel’s Liaison Group
