Support for school children who are not fluent in English is available from staff and student volunteers through the Language Support Project. Volunteers are matched with pupils with whom they share a language other than English. They work together to help the pupil improve their language skills, enabling better access to the curriculum. Support for a variety of languages is available. Please contact Community Partnerships for further details. View case studies.
Sessions that focus on the sharing of culture and language can be delivered in local primary schools by students from Nottingham University Business School (NUBS). NUBS attracts students from a variety of countries and this project brings them together with primary schools to develop a programme of activities that meet the needs of schools in line with the National Curriculum. Please contact Community Partnerships for further details. View a case study.
The teaching and learning of modern languages at all levels in schools and colleges is promoted and supported by the School of Modern Languages and Cultures. Its Modern Languages Widening Participation Consortium provides a useful network of contacts, events and resources.
