Chemistry
The School of Chemistry has an active outreach programme for schools developed by the UK's first Public Awareness Scientist. The programme includes interactive talks and hands-on experiments, exciting demonstrations, and the establishment of a regular after school discussion forum for teenagers with invited guest speakers.
Physics and Astronomy
The School of Physics and Astronomy is engaged in a wide range of activities designed to help schools become involved in cutting-edge physics and astronomy. These include talks and demonstrations, visits to the School’s research facilities and the running of masterclasses.
Sharing Scientific Research
Researchers run workshops to share their discoveries in the areas of biology, biosciences, chemistry, pharmacy, engineering and physics as part of the Public Understanding of Science Project . Engineering
The Faculty of Engineering has a variety of lectures, presentations and demonstrations, available to teachers to help engage children with designing, building and exploring the world of engineering.
Environment
The University is the lead organisation in the East Midlands for the Open Air Laboratories (OPAL) network which has been set up to inspire nature lovers to explore, study and protect their local environment. Events take place throughout the year across the region.
